Excerpt from Letter from the Board of Directors
More Neighbours Toronto believes that Toronto’s future can still be brighter than its past. We can imagine a city that welcomes all who seek to build a life here, where people of every age and background can find a place to belong. A city where a teacher and a tradesperson can buy a home, where families can grow without moving away, and where older generations remain close enough to see their grandchildren walk to school.
A city whose creative energy is spent on art, commerce, and invention rather than on navigating scarcity. A city that builds confidently, beautifully, and freely.
That is the Toronto More Neighbours exists to help build. And, paradoxically, it is the Toronto in which we would no longer need to exist.
Where do we want MNTO to be in 3 years?
- Regularly deputing to all 3 levels of government
- Be a thought leader in housing policy research and development
- A place for housing advocates to meet and collaborate
- Established as a high-capacity, non-profit organization
Strategic Priorities 2026-29
Strengthen Member Engagement & Community
Goal: Clarify ways for new and existing members to become meaningfully involved with MNTO, making participation more welcoming, rewarding, and sustainable. Focus on improving onboarding, simplifying volunteer pathways, and building a stronger sense of community through regular events, updates, and accessible communication channels.
Strengthen Effective and Credible Policy Development Capabilities
Goal: Continue refining MNTO’s advocacy strategy to balance technical expertise with clear, relatable messaging.
Broaden Stakeholder Relationships and Collaboration
Goal: Leverage MNTO’s credibility and relationships with media, housing policy experts, City staff and councillors, provincial and federal elected officials and civil servants, and community groups to influence housing policy across all orders of government.
Build Sustainable Organizational Capacity
Goal: Move toward a more stable structure by strengthening systems, documentation, and accountability for volunteers. Explore options for modest funding or partnerships that allow MNTO to maintain independence while increasing organizational capacity and reducing burnout. Further professionalization of the organization and building of internal resources and capacity.
